Dental Crowns at Smiles On Grenfell
Same Day Dentistry
A dental crown is a full protective cover, which permanently sits over the tooth and looks just like a real tooth. The crown can make the tooth stronger, better looking and reduce the risk of breakage.
You may need a dental crown if you have:
- Recently had a tooth repaired with root canal treatment
- Extensive cracks or fractures in a tooth
- A large filling that needs to be replaced
- ESevere tooth decay
The crown is generally made from a modern ceramic material, and traditionally two appointments a week apart are needed to do this. A highly skilled dental ceramist fabricates these crowns to replicate the look of a healthy, natural tooth, in size, shape, colour, shine and transparency.
Ceramic restorations in a well cared-for mouth are at present the longest lasting protection we can offer for teeth that are heavily restored. We can achieve decades of use from ceramic crowned teeth and they become the strongest teeth in the mouth for dependable chewing for years to come.
CEREC Same Day Crowns
Traditionally, dental crowns have always been made by a technician in a lab. This process usually requires two different appointments across the span of about two weeks.
Thanks to 3D CAD/CAM imaging, it’s now possible to bypass the human design process altogether. After preparing your tooth for its new restoration, we take a digital “impression” or scan of it, electronically transmitting the data to our in-house milling equipment. A custom shade of ceramic is used, from which your new crown is carved while you wait.
While you sit back and relax, the permanent restoration is made and delivered. There’s no need to come back for a second appointment or take another day off of work
